These services help students, faculty, and staff to communicate and collaborate with others on and off campus. Services in this category include email and collaboration, conferencing and telephones, mass and emergency communications, and web services.

Computing services enable students, faculty, and staff to do their day-to-day work, including providing access to enterprise services. Services in this category include support for the management of University-owned end-point devices and associated operating and application software; printing services, and the distribution of software and licenses.

Security services provide security, data integrity, and compliance for university activities. Services in this category include security services such as virus protection and encryption; services relating to authentication, access, and role-based provisioning; and services that provide a secure computing environment for end users, including endpoint intrusion prevention, malware protection and remediation, and application-level security.

Infrastructure services maintain the enterprise-level hardware, software, systems, and network infrastructure that provides the underlying foundation for university activities. Services in this category include the hosting and administration of databases; the maintenance of physical data centers and strategy for data center management; the provisioning, hosting, and administration of servers; the back-end technology and services required to maintain core storage capabilities; and the maintenance of infrastructure items required to offer network connectivity.

IT professional services provide guidance on how to leverage technologies and select technology solutions, including those in the cloud. Services in this category include IT training, consulting, and advisory services, and the tools that support service management.

Advanced Cyberinfrastructure for Education and Research strives to provide researchers and their collaborators around the globe, with a broad array of computational resources and data-related services to meet any or all of their technical needs. These services include, but are not limited to, providing access to high-performance computing clusters, big data analytics clusters, collaborative research data storage, and secure research environments and high-performance networking. In addition to providing resources, ACER provides consulting services to researchers to support their broad range of research aims. From building advanced computing architectures and systems, setting up platforms to securely receive and analyze data from environment sensors, to software defined networking projects, ACER is committed to furthering UIC’s research ambitions.

Teaching and learning services provide direct support to the teaching mission of the university. Services in this category include the management and provisioning of enterprise level instructional technologies, which allow instructors to manage, share, and develop course materials, and facilitate learning through collaboration technology.
