Staff or IT technicians need to verify a device’s join state to assist with troubleshooting sign‑in, Intune enrollment, policy application, or identity‑related issues.
Environment
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 devices
- Microsoft Entra Admin Center
- Devices synced or managed through Entra ID / Intune
Resolution
1. Sign in to the Entra Admin Center
- Navigate to https://entra.microsoft.com
- Sign in with your admin account.
2. Open the Devices List
- In the left‑hand navigation panel, select Devices.
- Click All devices.
- Search for the device using:
- Device name
- User (via filters)
3. Check the Join Type
- Click the device name to open its details.
- Locate the Join type field.
- Azure AD joined — Cloud‑joined; typically managed by Intune.
- Hybrid Azure AD joined — Joined to on‑premises AD and synced to Entra.
- Azure AD registered — User‑based registration (BYOD/workplace join).
- (Optional) Review:
- MDM enrollment (e.g., Intune)
- Compliance status
- Last check‑in
- Primary user
