Description Virtual hosting provides infrastructure and control to IT professionals to host virtual machines, operating systems or applications that are installed on software that acts like computer hardware. Customers have the same experience on a virtual machine as they do using an actual machine.

How to get the service If you want Technology Services to provide both the virtual server and all server administration services, please send email to the Illinois Virtual Hosting team at virtualhosting@illinois.edu.

Describe your intended use for your server, so that the Illinois Virtual Hosting team can establish the proper hardware, software, and application requirements for your system.

To sign up for a VMware server that you will administer, please complete the form on this page.
Cost Beginning July 1, 2023 the new rates for hosting virtual machines with Technology Services will be as follows:
  • 1 vCPU = $2.845 / month
  • 1 GB of RAM = $1.057 / GB / Month
  • 1 GB of Fast Storage (Allocated) = $0.052 / GB / Month
  • 1 GB of Bulk Storage (Allocated) = $0.0041 / GB / Month
  • 1 GB of Backup Storage (Used) = $0.0031 / GB / Month
Usage constraints Access is limited to faculty and staff on the Urbana campus. Most sensitive data is allowed. Not yet authorized to house HIPAA data.
