Features

Faculty needs for the classroom

Students

Students may check out laptops and other multimedia equipment for three days at a time, at no cost, from the Academic Multimedia Lab (Daley Library IDEA Commons room 1-030)

Multiple-Day Use

Faculty/instructors are able to check out multimedia equipment for the purpose of multimedia development from the Academic Multimedia Lab, located in the Daley Library room 1-030. Checkouts are for three business days with the ability to renew the checkout. The following equipment is available at this location:

  • Windows or Apple laptops with multimedia software pre-installed
  • iPads
  • Digital projectors
  • Camcorders
    • Tripods
    • SD Cards
  • Digital audio recorders
  • USB headsets
  • and more!

Requirements

In order to check out equipment from Technology Solutions, you must be a current student, faculty, or staff member. Laptops are limited to three total checkouts per semester, in order to ensure the limited supply of laptops is available to as many students as possible. All lending of equipment is subject to the Equipment Lending Policy.

All Users

  • Borrower shall not leave equipment unattended while checked out
  • Borrower may only check out one of each type of device at a time
  • Borrower may not redistribute equipment to any other person(s)
  • Borrower is solely responsible for the equipment checked out to them, until the equipment has been returned and checked back in. This includes but is not limited to:
    • damage/destruction
    • loss
    • theft due to negligence
    • late return
    • misuse of any kind
  • Borrower is solely responsible for any fines resulting from above mentioned occurrences
  • Borrower is required to submit a police report to the UIC Police immediately upon loss/theft of equipment and to provide the police report number to the Technology Solutions within 24 hours
  • Borrower must abide by all university, state, and federal policies and laws regarding the appropriate use of the university network and computing resources
  • Failure to adhere to the conditions of use may result in the loss of equipment loan privileges
  • Having a suspended Technology Solutions account will prevent login access to the laptops loaned by the Technology Solutions
  • The Technology Solutions reserves the right to deny an equipment loan request, based on UIC account suspension status, previous fines, intended use, or other factors

Student Users

  • Borrower must be physically present and provide their valid UIC i-card to checkout equipment
  • The maximum length of a loan is three business days from time of checkout
  • A checkout may, at Technology Solutions' discretion, be renewed one time for a total of six business days of checkout
    • The borrower must physically visit the original checkout location with the checked out equipment to request the renewal
  • There is a per-semester limit of three checkouts for laptops, to ensure that the limited supply of laptops is able to benefit the greatest number of students
  • Failure to return equipment by the due date and time will result in late return fines, in addition to a hold being placed on borrower’s account, preventing further equipment checkout until the equipment is returned and for a one week period afterwards
    • This penalty will be extended for any repeat offenses
  • Fines are charged to the borrower’s UIC student account, and failure to pay may impact borrower’s ability to obtain transcripts, register for classes, and/or graduate
  • The borrower will receive an email confirmation of the equipment checkout, detailing a checkout reference number, the equipment checked out, and return deadlines

Faculty/Staff Users

  • Borrower must be physically present and provide their valid UIC i-card to checkout equipment
  • The borrower will receive an email confirmation of the equipment checkout, detailing a checkout reference number, the equipment checked out, and return deadlines
  • There may be fees associated with obtaining equipment from the Technology Solutions for non-course-related use
    • Fees vary based on the type of equipment needed, and the duration of the rental
    • These fees will be detailed and explained prior to equipment checkout
  • The above fees, as well as any fines, will be charged to borrower’s department CFOAP account

Service Request Fulfillment Time Immediate checkout at equipment lending locations. Reservations for faculty require 2 business days' notice

Service Availability Based on hours of operation at lending locations (between 8:00am - 7:00pm in some locations and 9:00am - 5:00pm in others). Not available during Academic Calendar break periods
