What Is It?
FileVault is full disk encryption for Mac. When you use JAMF Now to set up FileVault, the recovery keys will be stored in JAMF. This is handy if you forget the password to the Mac and still need to get access. To learn more about FileVault, see the following Apple documentation: macOS Security
Features
With FileVault, your data is safe and secure — even if your Mac falls into the wrong hands. FileVault 2 encrypts the entire drive on your Mac, protecting your data with XTS-AES 128 encryption. Mac computers built on the Apple M1 chip take data protection even further by using dedicated hardware to protect your login password and enabling file-level encryption.
Requirements
- macOS 10.9–10.12.x
- A “Recovery HD” partition
- FileVault enabled
- The management account configured as the enabled FileVault user
