Overview
Device management allows you to easily edit and add new 2FA devices as well as set up a recovery email address in the event you forget or lose your 2FA device.
Table of Contents
Accessing 2FA Device Management
- Visit NetID Center -> Select Log in
- You will need to login with NetID and password and authenticate with 2FA.
- Select the Manage my 2FA button
- By selecting the plus icon to the right of your device, you can select a favorite/default device, rename, delete or reactivate Duo Mobile App if applicable.

Setting a Favorite or Default device
If you authenticate with more than one device, you can specify the default by selecting the blue star icon. NOTE: You can now make your token your default device.

Reactivating the Duo Mobile App on your mobile device
Click the Reactivate Duo Mobile App button if you need to get Duo Push working on your existing phone or a new phone (replaced your phone with a new model but kept the same number). After answering a few questions, you will receive a new bar code to scan with your phone, which will complete the activation process. You will be required to authenticate using 2FA before reactivating. You will not be able to use Duo Push, but you can authenticate with a phone call or text message.

Changing the display name of your mobile device
Clicking Rename will allow you to change the display name of your phone (tokens can’t be renamed).

Type in the new name and click Save.

Removing a device
Click the trash can button to delete a device.
Note: You may not remove your last device. If you wish to remove it, first add another then delete the original. You will be given a chance to confirm or cancel the removal of the device. Once the device is deleted, it can no longer be used to approve DUO requests.

Adding a device
Clicking + Add a new device will walk you through a few steps to get a new device added.

Setting your default login behavior
Based on the default or favorite device selected, this allows you some options.
- Ask me how to authenticate - When authenticating with 2FA, you will be presented with the choice of how to authenticate (phone call, push, text, or passcode) when applicable. Available for smartphone, tablet, cellular phone, and landline phone.
- Automatically call - When authenticating with 2FA, the system will automatically call your default device for authentication. Available for smartphone, tablet, cellular phone, and landline phone. This can be canceled by selecting cancel this call on the authentication screen and then you can select another method.
- Automatically Duo Push - When authenticating with 2FA, the system will automatically send a duo push to your default device for authentication. Available for smartphone and tablets. This can be canceled by selecting cancel this push on the authentication screen and then you can select another method.
Logging in without your device: use a recovery email address
It is recommended that all users set up a non-university email address to receive a temporary passcode if you forget or lose your device. You can receive 24 codes a year and they are good for 3 days (100 authentications).
- Go to the NetID Center: https://identity.uillinois.edu
- Select Log in
- Under Recovery Settings, Select Edit settings
- Add or update the Non-university email address
