What are the default settings for Zoom Cloud Recordings, and how can I change them?

Effective 8/21/20, the following settings are in place by default for Zoom Cloud Recordings.
 

Cloud Recording Downloads

By default, individuals viewing a cloud recording will not be able to download the recording. Hosts can still enable this download access for specific recordings if desired. To enable this, follow these steps:

  1. Access your cloud recordings by visiting uic.zoom.us, selecting Sign In, and then choosing Recordings from the left side menu.

  2. In your list of recordings, select the Share button for the recording you want to allow to be downloaded.

  3. Toggle the selection for Viewers can download, then select Done.

Access to Cloud Recordings

By default, only those individuals who have a University of Illinois Zoom account are able to view cloud recordings. Hosts can turn off this setting as a default for all of their recordings, or on a per-recording basis. Please recall, all UIC faculty, staff, and students, outside of the Hospital and clinics, can create a UIC Zoom account by visiting uic.zoom.us.

To change this setting for an individual recording:

  1. Access your cloud recordings by visiting uic.zoom.us, selecting Sign In, and then choosing Recordings from the left side menu.

  2. In your list of recordings, select the Share button for the recording you want to allow to be downloaded.

  3. Change the selection under Share this recording, from Only authenticated users can view to Publicly. Then select Done.

To change this setting as a default for all of your recordings:

  1. Access your cloud recording settings by visiting uic.zoom.us, selecting Sign In, choosing Settings from the left side menu, and then selecting the Recordings tab.

  2. Scroll down, and toggle the selection to Off for Only authenticated users can view cloud recordings.

Recording Disclaimer

Illinois law (720 Ill. Compiled Stat. 5/14-2) requires that individuals be made aware, and have the opportunity to decline, being recorded. Zoom’s Recording Disclaimer feature will prompt participants to agree to be recorded, or gives them the option to leave the meeting. Zoom will also ask the host to confirm before starting a recording. These settings will be required - hosts will not be able to disable this. Those participants who are only connected via phone will receive multiple audio notifications of recording starting, stopping, or resuming.

Auto-deletion of Cloud Recordings

With the rapid increase in the utilization of Zoom since it was first made available at UIC in March, there is a need to manage the storage space available for cloud recordings. For this reason, cloud recordings will be automatically deleted after 180 days. Hosts are still able to recover a recording for 30 days after deletion. In your recordings list, you will see the number of days until automatic deletion, as shown here:
