Why can't I customize the theme or colors in Blackboard?

UIC is using the most current version of Blackboard Learn, which offers many valuable benefits. To ensure that the updated interface works properly across all devices and all course sites, the colors and sizes of elements in the Blackboard interface are not able to be customized at this time.

The user interface now provides significantly better support for mobile devices. Now, when users log into Blackboard on a mobile device or tablet, screen elements such as the course menu and control panel are full-size and readable, but compress or change position to remain visible. And as the screen gets smaller, modules and tool tiles stack so the user still has access to them at their fingertips. These new responsive design elements improve the user experience for anyone who wants access to their Blackboard course sites on their own schedule!

While it is possible that the custom theme capabilities will return in a future Blackboard release, your students now can benefit from a better user experience for their various course sites. You can still personalize your course by adding a banner or using some of the other elements listed at Blackboard help; Customize your Course.
