How do I set up the My Devices Portal and connect my devices to the UIC wireless network?

Overview

The My Devices Portal allows students, faculty, and staff living in UIC residence halls to register personal devices for direct access to the wireless network. This portal is designed for devices that do not easily support standard wireless authentication, such as gaming consoles, smart TVs, and media players.

This article provides an overview of the My Devices Portal and step-by-step instructions for accessing the portal, registering a new device, marking a device as lost or stolen, and reinstating a device if it is recovered.

Details on My Devices Portal

One feature of the Resident Hall Network is the My Devices Portal. This portal allows students, faculty, and staff in the resident halls to register their devices, automatically connecting to the mydevices wireless network without needing to sign in each time.

Gaming Devices, Smart TVs, and Media Players are just a few of the devices that may be registered in this way. Desktop PCs, Laptops, and Tablets should continue connecting through the UIC-Wifi, UIC-Guest, or Eduroam wireless networks.

Steps to Access My Devices Portal

  1. Access the My Devices Portal at mydevices.ise.cc.uic.edu and log in with your UIC NetID and Common Password.

Steps to Add a New Device

To add a new device to your MY Devices listing you will need to know the MAC address of your device. To locate your MAC address for all major devices please see: How do I find the MAC address of my specific device?

MAC addresses are represented as a set of 6 pairs of letters and numbers, separated by colons (ex. AA:BB:CC:11:22:33). We recommend checking manufacturers’ websites to learn how to obtain MAC addresses for particular devices.

  1. Navigate to My Devices Portal > Manage Devices and select Add.

  2. Enter a device name (example Xbox One)

  3. Enter the MAC address (sometimes referred to as the Physical Address or Device ID) of the device.

  4. Enter a description of the device (e.g., John Doe’s X-Box One)

  5. Select Submit

  6. After properly registering your device the status will show “Pending”.  Your device is now ready to join the “mydevices” wireless network and will be useable immediately.
