What Is It?
Box AI is a generative AI-powered feature integrated into UIC’s Box cloud storage platform. It enables users to ask questions about the content inside their documents and receive intelligent summaries, insights, and contextual responses—directly within the Box interface. This service empowers UIC to work more efficiently by streamlining how they understand, extract, and interact with data stored in Box.

Box AI has been reviewed and assessed for security and privacy risks. One identified risk is clients being unaware of who has access to their Box data. To mitigate this, clients are responsible for monitoring access to their data and ensuring that only the appropriate people have permission.
Requirements

Available to all Box clients and is the first AI tool available at no cost, which may be used with all university data. Special circumstances may arise with the use of Box AI and PHI, PII, and FERPA data. Please consult with your immediate supervisor to discuss if Box AI can or cannot be used in your work. If you are not sure, please send an email with your inquiry to security@uic.edu.
