Summary
Your UIC email address is in the form netid@uic.edu, where 'netid' is your. This is an email forwarding address, not an actual email account. In order to be used, netid@uic.edu must forward to an actual email account, which for most people will be a UIC email account managed by Technology Solutions.
Body
Your UIC email address is in the form netid@uic.edu, where "netid" is your UIC NetID.
Your netid@uic.edu email must route to a UIC email account. Effective July 2022, email routing is restricted to UIC's Microsoft Exchange email system. The only exception to this policy is for the following special case:
- Individuals whose primary affiliation is with another university in the University of Illinois System may forward to an email address in one of the following domains: uic.edu, uis.edu, illinois.edu, uillinois.edu, or wwtps.com.
Because the uic.edu email address spans multiple email services (i.e. Exchange, Google, etc...) all users with a uic.edu email address also have an internal routing address (similar to an email forwarding address). There are three possible domains for a user's internal routing:
ad.uic.edu - UIC Exchange
uihealth.uic.edu - UIHealth Exchange
gmail.uic.edu - UIC Google
Do not set your internal routing to uic.edu. If you do, you will not receive email from some other UIC services like Listserv.
You may log in with your UIC NetID & password to view or make changes to your email routing. The options you see after logging in will be based on the policies for your role as described above, and may include:
- UIC Exchange or Create a New UIC Exchange account
- Enter the email address of another email account that you own (within allowed domains)
Effective July 2022, routing of UIC email addresses can no longer be changed to UIC Gmail. Existing routing is not impacted, but the email routing page linked above will only present UIC Exchange as a destination option.
