Overview

Zoom AI (also referred to as Zoom AI Companion and ZoomMate) is an integrated, generative AI assistant built into the Zoom platform. It helps UIC users before, during, and after meetings with features like meeting summaries, smart recording, in‑meeting questions, content generation, and conversational assistance. These tools are designed to improve productivity, capture actionable insights, and reduce time spent on manual meeting follow‑ups.

Features

  • Summaries of meetings with “next steps” and highlights. 
  • Smart recording: automatic chapters, highlights, and conversation analytics. 
  • In‑meeting questions: allowing participants to ask AI questions about what has happened so far. 
  • Thread & chat summarization for Zoom team chat. 
  • Content generation for whiteboards, meeting follow‑ups, and documents. 

Requirements

  • Valid UIC Zoom account with AI Companion features enabled.
  • Up‑to‑date Zoom client or web portal version that supports AI Companion.
  • Permissions for the meeting host to enable/disable AI Companion features for their account or meeting.
  • Note that some AI Companion features are disabled for the UIC tenant due to data privacy and security requirements.

Enabling and Disabling Zoom AI

To enable/disable Zoom AI features, please:

  1. Go to your web portal account settings
  2. Select “Settings” then Zoom AI in the left sidebar
  3. Navigate to the AI Companion tab at the top of the page.
  4. On this page, you can turn specific features on and off (except for those that are locked at the UIC tenant level).
