What is the email size limit for UIC Email?

Overview

UIC email services have message size limits that apply to both email messages and attachments. These limits help ensure reliable email delivery and system performance.

Email Size Limits

The maximum message size for email sent to or from Microsoft Exchange, and Technology Solutions-managed mail servers is 25 MB.

  • Microsoft Exchange (outgoing): 25MB
  • Technology Solutions mail servers: 25MB
  • Listserv: 10MB

Sending Large Files

If your message or attachment exceeds the size limit, consider uploading the file to a university-approved cloud storage service, such as:

  • Box
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • Google Drive

You can then share the file by including a link in your email message.

Important Note About Attachments

Email attachments are encoded before they are sent. This process increases the size of the attachment, often by 25% or more. As a result, a file that appears to be under the size limit on your computer may exceed the email size limit when attached to a message.
