Course Building

  • What Is It?

This service offers support for CBA faculty, staff, and teaching assistants using Blackboard for online and on campus courses. Course Builders can assist with the following:

  • Assistance in setting up a new or continuing Blackboard Site, including the following:
    • Requesting a new Blackboard course shell on behalf of a professor.
    • Updating dates and other documents within an existing Blackboard shell/course. 
    • Adding Discussion Boards and Journal Assignments.
    • Adding faculty authored documents to the Bb site such as syllabus, rubrics, calendars, etc. 
    • Help with setting up assignments, exams and quizzes. 
    • Assisting with Blackboard course design and weekly modules
    • Adding captions to Panopto videos
    • Adding a Zoom link in the Blackboard shell.  
  • Collaborating with team members from the Instructional Design Multimedia Production Studio (IDMPS) on new online course design.
  • Course Builders are not able to assist with the following:
    • Grading or any other Teaching Assistant duties. 
    • Helping Students with Blackboard Issues
    • Transfer of content from previous Blackboard course shell. 
    • Set-up of Echo360 in the classroom - faculty should email CBAHelp@uic.edu.
  • For technical or publisher issues with Blackboard anyone needing assistance should email LTS@uic.edu 

Features

Faculty and teaching assistants can use this service to receive help with their course set-up and using features in Blackboard. CBA Faculty can use this service for help with course development or course support for active or existing courses in Blackboard. 

Who Is Eligible To Use It?

Faculty, staff, and teaching assistants may request help from a Course Builder.

Click on the request help button and fill out the form including details on your specific request. 

How Much Does It Cost?

The service is free for CBA faculty, staff, and students. 

Service Levels

Service Request Fulfillment Time A staff member will reply within 24-48 hours of submission of the request for assistance.
Incident Resolution Time Requests will be fulfilled within 3 business days after the initial response. 
Service Availability This service is available M-F 8:30-5:00 p.m.
