Overview
This document is to provide details on how to maintain author names on Microsoft Word documents. Changes to the settings will affect new comments and future documents. This setting may also aid in maintaining author info/data on other Office documents. In most cases, document tags will follow the name of the individual signed into office based on their name in the UIC directory "lastname, firstname middleinitial/middlename" Please be sure to verify that you are signed into office with your account prior to making comments.

Commenting Anonymously
If you wish to remain anonymous when commenting on documents, you will need to set the condition for word to remove your name/info from the document.
In the tools section, select Protect Document" which can also be found in the Review tab of the ribbon. In the Protect Document dialog box, you will check "Remove personal information from this file on save". This means after commenting on a section of the document and clicking save, it will convert the comment with your name to "Author". In most cases, word will maintain the color scheme identifier to help distinguish who has or currently is commenting.
