Update mobile device now or lose connection to email via Exchange online

Intro

Microsoft is ending support for Basic Authentication and will only support “Modern Authentication”. This industry move, prompted Technology Services to disable all remaining Basic Authentication protocols on August 1, 2022. As of July 2022, there are still thousands of accounts connecting with Basic Authentication. These accounts need to take action maintain access to their email on their mobile devices. 

Instructions

  1. Open the Settings app, and scroll down to find and tap the Mail.
  2. Tap Accounts (Passwords & Accounts in some versions) to see a list of accounts that are configured.
  3. Select "Exchange" (or whichever entry represents your University account) and choose "Delete Account" on its page. You will be warned about removing things, but data stored on the University mail server will not be lost; this is only removing it from your device.
  4. The account has now been removed and need to be readded.
  5. Choose Add Account on the Accounts page to add back your University account. Detailed instructions for doing this can be found in this article: Office 365, Email, Configure the Mail and Calendar app for iPhone or iPad
