What are the requirements for a UIC NetID password?

Attention: To address current problems with passwords successfully syncing to UIC systems, we strongly recommend choosing a password that is at least 16 characters in length, rather than the standard 12 character minimum. For more information and guidance, please refer to Recommended rules for Password Creation and Password Sync
 
University NetID passwords must meet the following requirements:
 
  • Must be between twelve (12) and 127 characters in length.
  • Must contain at least one UPPERCASE letter
  • Must contain at least one lowercase letter
  • Must contain at least one number and/or one special character (e.g. #,$,%, etc.). The following characters are not allowed: spaces, @, quotes (") and commas.
  • Cannot contain any four consecutive characters of your NetID
  • Cannot contain spaces or any non-printable character
  • For passwords shorter than 16 characters in length: cannot contain any dictionary words longer than three characters in length
  • Cannot be a password you have used in the past three years
