Is Qualtrics accessible?

Not all of the types of questions available in Qualtrics are accessible. As a state-funded university, UIC must comply with the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act, which requires WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards. The default administrative settings for UIC Qualtrics will not permit the publishing of any surveys which include non-accessible question types. 

The following describes the accessible questions available in Qualtrics and the non-accessible questions which may not be used in UIC surveys. Before publishing a survey, an accessibility checker will verify whether the survey is accessible or not. Non-accessible questions will not be allowed by the accessibility checker. When they are detected by the checker, they will need to be changed to an accessible question type before a survey can be published.

Accessible questions (WCAG 2.0 AA compliant):

• Descriptive text
• Multiple choice (all types)
• Net promoter® score
• Text entry (all types)
• Form field
• Rank order (only text box, graphic, and radio buttons)
• Side by side
• Constant sum (only choices, a.k.a text entry)
• Drill down
• Timing
• Meta info
• Captcha verification (V2)

Non-accessible questions:

• Matrix (likert, bipolar, MaxDiff, and carousel, as well as any matrix table that is drag and drop)
• Rank order (Drag and drop and select box)
• Constant sum (sliders and bars)
• Pick, group, and rank
• Hot spot
• Heat map
• Graphic slider
• Signature
• Highlight
• File upload
• Video response
• Org hierarchy (EX)

Exceptions for non-accessible question types:

Exceptions can be granted if non-accessible question types are:

1. deemed necessary to gather required data (the question cannot be rewritten using a different question type) AND 
2. the surveys will not be distributed outside the university to the general public.
