How do I request software to be installed in a classroom, computer lab, or the Virtual Computer Lab?

Many instructors have found it useful to have software and data files installed on our network servers for their students to use. Technology Solutions will work with faculty and departments to make such arrangements.

Software Installation Request Deadlines

  • For Spring Semester, the software installation request submission time frame ends 5 weeks before the start of the semester.
  • For Summer Session 1 (4-week) and Summer Session 2 (8-week), the software installation request submission time frame ends 3 weeks before the start of the semester.
  • For Fall Semester, the software installation request submission time frame ends 5 weeks before the start of the semester.

After reviewing What software is available in the classrooms and computer labs? and What software is available through Virtual Computer Lab?, you must submit your software installation request for any other software before the deadline and provide all the required information.

  • Software installation request form
  • Proof of purchase and license/activation keys
    • Upload to Box and provide the share link
    • If software is freeware, please mention that in the details
  • Media and software installation instructions
    • Upload the installer file or files to Box and provide the share link
    • Please ensure the version is the most current available from the vendor

If you need software installed in a computer lab or classroom for a one-time purpose (for example, for a 2-day seminar), then the software and request should be submitted no less than 4 weeks prior to the first lab reservation for that class. The software will be removed once the event is over.

An email will be sent to you once the software is installed; you must then test the software to ensure everything is working as expected for class. Support for the software is the responsibility of the instructor or department who requested that the software be installed. Proof of purchase and/or license must be provided for as many copies as will be needed for the students in the class. We will not install software without appropriate proof of license(s), even for free software. A link to the license statement should be sufficient to satisfy the license requirement for free software.

Although Technology Solutions will make a reasonable effort to get all software packages to work, we are not able to guarantee that they will. Some packages may not function because of the network or computer lab/classroom setup. Additionaly, if your chosen software does not have a silent installation method, we are not able to support it. Technology Solutions cannot be held responsible for software that does not work by class time.

At the end of the semester, all class files and software will be removed. Software must be requested every semester.
