How do I customize my Google Calendar notifications?

If you have missed Google meeting invitations for your UIC account, you can resolve that issue by enabling Google Calendar notifications.

The following features can both be set up on a per-calendar basis, and are both configured under:

  1. Open your Google Calendar.
  2. Click on the Gear icon.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Select the calendar to be configured.

Change Notifications

Google Calendar can be configured to send email notifications when events are added, removed, or changed on your calendar. When enabled, these settings will generate an email to your UIC email address when changes are made to your Google Calendar.

  1. On your Google Calendar settings page, scroll down to Other Notifications.
  2. Click the drop-downs for any event for which you wish to receive notifications and change them to "Email".

Event notifications

This is another critical step in not missing events in your calendar. You can add event notifications to each calendar, in the form of notifications (desktop pop-up messages that you can dismiss or snooze) or email alerts. Here, we set them up such that an email will come through an hour before an event and a notification will pop up ten minutes before an event:

  1. On your Google Calendar settings page, scroll down to Event Notifications.
  2. Click the drop-down and select the type of notification you want to set.
  3. Configure the time associated with the alert.
