Introduction

The University of Illinois assigns its faculty, staff and students a Network ID (NetID). The NetID is the part of your e-mail before the @ symbol. Your NetID has a password associated with it, this password is commonly called NetID password or Active Directory password. Majority of services, digital tools and resources provided by the University will ask for your NetID and password. Furthermore, your NetID is protected by multi-factor authentication.

How To Claim NetID

The University of Illinois uses an application UI New Hire to process new hires. During this process a new hire will claim their NetID, specify password reset options, set their NetID password and configure multi-factor authentication. This process MUST be completed for the new hire to be able to use any University resource such as computers, applications that require licensing, etc.
