Quick Start Guide to Your Illinois Credentials


Your Network ID (NetID) is a unique identifier assigned to you across all University of Illinois campuses. With your associated NetID password, it serves as your login to most University computing and networking services. Your NetID is the part of your e-mail address before the @ symbol.

  • Students initially set their NetID Password through NetID Claim. 
  • Staff and faculty can initially set their NetID Password through the UI New Hire system.

Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

2FA will protect both you and the University from unauthorized access to your personal data stored in the University's enterprise systems. 2FA provides a second layer of security to your University account making it difficult for an unauthorized person to access your information. Graduate students, staff and faculty are required to use 2FA
  1. Enroll/verify 2FA enrollment.

Illinois Email

The UOFI provides email via Microsoft Exchange. Your email inbox will be created approximately 2 hours after your NetID has been created. 

Accessing Email via Browser

  1. Log in with Illinois email
    • If you access another email in this manner, use an incognito window ( private window, InPrivate window) to access the webpage. This helps avoid confusion.
