Body
No additional software is needed to map your webhost.uic.edu account as a network share.
If you are connecting from an off-campus location you will need to connect to the UIC Virtual Private Network (VPN) first.
Then, ensure you activate your site, if you haven't already done so.
Windows
To map your account start by right-clicking on your Desktop. Select New then Shortcut. In the dialog, type in \\people.uic.edu\NetID (use your own UIC NetID) in the location field. Click Next.
In the next dialog, you can set a name for your shortcut. The default will be based on your NetID. Double-click on the newly created shortcut.
You will be prompted to log in using your UIC credentials. Note that if you are in an Technology Solutions computer lab, or connected to Active Directory, you will not be prompted to authenticate.
Type in ad\NetID (where NetID is your UIC NetID) for the username and your UIC common password.
Once successfully authenticated, your people.uic.edu account will be mapped in the Network section of Windows Explorer's sidebar. You can now create folders and drag and drop content to your site.
Troubleshooting
If you are using Windows 10 and receive the error message "The file \\people.uic.edu\NetID cannot be found.", go to Control Panel->Programs->Turn Windows features on or off->SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support then turn on SMB 1.0/CIFS Client and restart the computer.
Mac OS X
On a Mac, open the Finder app and select Go then Connect to server... from the top menubar. Alternatively, press command (⌘) and K key.
In the Server Address field, type in smb://people.uic.edu/NetID (use your own UIC NetID). Click on the plus sign button to add the server to Favorites.
To connect, select the server from Favorites and click Connect.
When connecting for the first time, you will be prompted to authenticate. Use your common password. Optionally, you can save your authentication credentials to the Keychain.
Once connected, you will be able to drag and drop files in and out of the folders in your people.uic.edu account. You can also open files and edit them directly from the mapped account.
To disconnect, click on the eject button next to people.uic.edu remote server name in the Finder sidebar.
