How do I clear the Device Activation Lock?

Overview 

This article provides step by step instructions on how to clear a device activation lock by wiping the device or by using a bypass code. 

Clear by Wiping the Device

1. Log in to your Jamf Pro dashboard and navigate to Devices > Search Devices.
2. Locate and select the locked iPad.
3. Click Management and select Wipe Device.
4. Check the box for Clear Activation Lock (supervised iOS devices only).
5. Click Wipe to send the command. Jamf Pro will automatically use stored bypass codes to clear the lock as the device erases

Manually use the Bypass code – Does Not Require Wipe

1. In Jamf Pro, find the iPad in your Inventory details.
2. Look under the Management tab or device details to find the Activation Lock Bypass Code.
3. On the locked iPad, leave the Apple ID/Account field blank.
4. Type the Jamf-generated bypass code into the password field and proceed with setup.
   (Pro-tip: To avoid typing a long code on the iPad, plug the iPad into a Mac, open Finder, select the iPad, and copy/paste the bypass code directly into the setup screen).
