How do I restore files from server backups?

Summary

File restoration is completed through the Commvault Command Center web interface.

Body

To restore files to a Commvault-protected server, follow the below steps.

  1. Find the server that you would like to restore files from in the Commvault Command Center interface, then select the server's name:

  2. Go to the Recovery Points part of the page, on the right side. You can view all backup dates and select the date and time that you would like to restore from. Select a date (dates with backups will have grey circles around them), select a time, then select Restore.

  3. You will be taken to an interface in which you can either browse the backed up file system or search for files/folders.

  4. Either browse to the file's location or search for the file. Note that you can (and may need to) use * as a wildcard character in the search function. For example, searching for "Windows-x64_Depts" would not return the same results as "Windows-x64_Depts*". Also note that depending on what you are trying to restore, you may have to select the "…" icon and select the options to show deleted and hidden files.

  5. Once you have selected the file/folders that you want to restore, you can restore them to any servers in your tenant that have the Commvault client installed. You can also use the Download option, which will allow you to download those files/folders through your web browser instead.
