How can students use Panopto to upload video that can be shared with other students?

Instructors can use Blackboard assignments along with Panopto to allow students to submit a video for a graded assignment. In this case, Panopto creates a Student Submissions folder which only allows the submission of a video once by a student, and is only shared with the instructor.

There are other circumstances though, when instructors may want students to use Panopto to create a video to upload to a discussion board, blog, or for a team project. In this case the instructor can create a course Assignment Folder which allows students access to Panopto and provides them a folder to place the videos.

Creating an Assignment Folder

  1. Access the Panopto Video link in your Blackboard course.

  1. Click on Folder Settings.

  1. Click on Create Assignment Folder.

  1. The assignment folder is created.

  1. You can edit the name of the folder by clicking on the folder title. Then go to the folder settings and click Edit.

Note: Students will be able to record and upload videos to the assignments folder, as well as be able to edit and delete their own videos. They are unable to change the folder's settings and permissions, or view its statistics. They will not be able to see any other user's videos in the folder, unless settings are changed.

To allow students to see others' videos: Open the Settings menu for the Assignments folder and navigate to the Settings tab. Select the check box next to Allow viewers to see each other's sessions
