Can I use Google Classroom?

Google Classroom is a product in Google Workspace; however, it is not used as the Learning Management System (LMS) at UIC. UIC uses Blackboard Learn as the LMS integrated with Banner - Student Information System (SIS).

Using Google Classroom

If you are teaching students how to use Google Classroom as part of the course requirements, or if you are interesting in using Google Classroom to teach, please email CATE-LTS at LTS@uic.edu to request access. You will need to provide a list of the emails of your students and the instructor(s) to be added. There are three important considerations:

  1. There are no synced enrollments in Google Classroom so students dropping and enrolling late to the class will need to be monitored by the instructor requesting access.
  2. Courses are not created in Google Classroom, like they are in Blackboard, which means that the instructor requesting access will have to create the course and invite the students to access Classroom.
  3. The process to access Google Classroom is per instructor request and it may take up to 48 hours, please plan accordingly.
