How to merge course sites (for support staff)

The information from the Merge Course request comes to you in the following form:

Primary Course Instructor UIC netid: rcoppo1
Primary CourseID: 2016.Fall.CI.414.28202
Secondary CourseIDs to be Merged into the Primary CourseID:2016.Fall.CI.504.37207
Special Instructions/Additional Information:Please send confirmation when completed. Thanks for the help!

Follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the requestor is the listed instructor in Primary and Secondary course(s). If not, reply to the requestor asking for authorization from the listed instructor/department.
  2. Courses -> Search primary course ID
  3. Edit the Primary Course by clicking in the chevron arrow under Courses.
  4. Select the check box "Select Courses to Merge"
  5. The Child Courses area will appear, browse and choose the secondary course ID or IDs (you can select multiple sections if it is the same course, but if not, repeat steps 2 to 4 multiple times as needed. Make sure to click on Submit in this menu
  6. Modify the course name for the Primary course to include the new CRN in parenthesis. Examples below (primary, secondary, and merged courses):
    • ENGL 161 Academic Writing II (11866) 2016 Fall, ENGL 161 Academic Writing II (11935) 2016 Fall, ENGL 161 Academic Writing II (11866 11935) 2016 Fall
    • AH 471 Topics in Asian Art Arch (27747) 2016 Fall, GLAS 471 Topics in Asian Art Arch (40019) 2016 Fall, AH/GLAS 471 Topics in Asian Art Arch (27747 40019) 2016 Fall
  7. Edit enrollment for the first Secondary Course (child course) and change the instructor availability to NO so once merged, they see only one course. Modifying the first will carry to the others. Do not remove instructor from the child courses, just change availability to NO.
