Is video streaming allowed in classrooms for academic purposes?

Below is the copyright protocol for streaming video in UIC classrooms

Professors are allowed to stream videos in UIC Classrooms for academic purposes under the Classroom Use Exemption, if all the below points applies:  

In-class viewing is a public performance, but it's permitted under the Classroom Use Exemption

  • Be in a classroom ("or similar place devoted to instruction"). 
  • Be there in person, engaged in face-to-face teaching activities. 
  • Be at a nonprofit educational institution. 
  • Be using a lawfully made copy

To qualify for this exemption, you must: 

The Classroom Use Exemption (17 U.S.C. §110(1)) only applies in limited situations, but when applied, it gives clear rights.

If the copy is legal and its in a classroom, the classroom use exemption would apply at UIC.
