What are some reasons Blackboard may be slow?

Response time in web systems can be affected by a number of factors. Sometimes the workstation or device itself may have problems with memory or CPU. Sometimes WIFI or local Internet connectivity may be slow. Other times the server itself may be slowing down. Often restarting the modem, WIFI, and the computer resets local activity and restores original performance.

Server problems

Application servers

Sometimes there is a particular Blackboard app server that is slow. Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can help switch you over to a different app server. For an advanced explanation of clearing cookies/switching app servers, please see these resources:

Reporting performance statistics

If you are still experiencing slowness in Blackboard after clearing your cache and cookies, please follow these steps and submit the form below:

  1. Click here to display Blackboard application server data http://bit.ly/UICBBTest. Copy and paste the results for "Name" and "CPU Load Average" into the ticket.
  2. Click here to test the website speed of uic.blackboard.com. Copy and paste the results received for "Load Time" into the ticket.
  3. Please provide as much information as possible in the reply to the ticket(your UIC netID, browser, what network connection you are using, is your network connection wired/wireless.)

These numbers will help us send a more detailed ticket to our service provider.
